Fundraising through Sacramento River Cats Tickets

The Elk Grove Unified School District (EGUSD) has partnered with the Sacramento River Cats to raise funds for the EGUSD high school athletics program. EGUSD will receive 50 percent of the ticket price for tickets purchased for two Sacramento River Cats playoff games on September 9 and 10.
Special promotions will be featured at each game. The game on September 9 is $1 hot dog and $1 dessert night. A fireworks show will occur after the game on September 10. Game attendees wearing school spirit gear to either game will receive $2 in Cat Cash – which can be used to purchase food and souvenirs at the ball park.
The cost of the tickets is $10. EGUSD will receive $5 for every ticket sold. To purchase tickets for these games, click here and type in special offer code “athletics.” Tickets must be purchased through this link for EGUSD to receive the 50 percent benefit.

EGUSD proceeds from ticket sales will benefit athletic programs at all EGUSD high schools.
The Elk Grove Unified School District (EGUSD) has long been known for its excellent athletic programs. We are proud of this reputation and recognize that athletics support our students’ physical, social, and academic development. Unfortunately, due to the continuing financial crisis in the State of California and the reduction of funding for public education, the district has been forced to cut an additional $160,000 from high school athletics for the 2011-2012 school year. That is a total reduction of over one million dollars to athletics in the last two years.
Last year a Parent Advisory Committee was formed to explore alternative financial options for supporting the district’s athletic programs. As a result of the recommendations of this parent committee, as well as those of principals, athletic directors, and coaches, the Board of Education approved the implementation of a Voluntary Athletic Contribution (VAC) plan.
The purpose of the plan is to support our athletic programs and help offset district and school site budget reductions that have affected the existing programs. We encourage your help and support to ensure the success of the plan.
The goal is to raise $300,000 in donations through the VAC plan. To support the VAC fundraising goal, the Athletic Parent Advisory Committee has recommended a $25 increase to the suggested per student-athlete voluntary contribution:
| First Sport |
= $150 |
| Second Sport/Second Sibling |
= $125 |
| Third Sport/Third Sibling |
= $100 |
It is not the intent of the VAC to create a financial hardship and contributions are not mandatory, but to accomplish the goal, every student-athlete is encouraged to contribute.. While your child will not be adversely affected in terms of her/his participation in the district’s athletic programs should your family choose not to make a financial contribution, neither will a VAC contribution ensure your student’s inclusion on a team or guarantee playing time. Families who wish to contribute more or less than the suggested amount or who choose not to make a contribution may indicate so on the VAC form. All VAC contributions are tax-deductible.
We are grateful for your continued support of EGUSD athletics, especially in these uncertain economic times. The district’s goal is to continue to offer a quality athletic program at each of its comprehensive high school sites. Your voluntary contribution will provide our students with the opportunity to enhance their personal growth and have a positive high school experience through participation in athletics.
