2007/2008 Winter Season Highlights The winter sports season is officially over for Sheldon High School; however, it was another successful season. Women’s Basketball finished second in the DRL with Cheyenne Cathey, Lanjajia Ernest, and Coach Rollings being selected by the coaches to the All-League Team. Then the women made it again to the Elite 8 in D-1 playoffs for the 5th straight year. Men’s Basketball tied for second in tough DRL action and placed Marcus Jackson and Darius Nelson on the All-League Team. The men then went onto the Final 4 in section play. The Wrestling team also took second in the DRL with Vance Lyons, Derek Clary, and Daniel Mulligan earning All-League honors by winning their weight classes at the DRL Championships. Derek and Julius Wright then went on to earn trips to the California State Meet. The Varsity Cheerleaders won the GPA championship for SHS winter sports, and their coaches and captains will be honored at tomorrow night’s EGUSD Board Meeting. Yes, it was a great winter to be a Husky!

Softball
The
softball team was the Delta River League
Champs and the Sac-Joaquin Section D-1
Champs with an overall record of 29-1.
The team was ranked #7 by USA Today, the
second California team. The Sacramento
Bee named Jolene
Henderson as Player of the Year
and Mary Jo
Truesdale as Coach of the Year,
her third time. The Bee also honored
Alexa Rivera
and Lindsey
Ziegenhirt to the first team
All-Metro Team.
Track &
Field
Both
the women's and men's track & field
teams were the Delta River League
Champs. The women finished 2nd and the
men 5th in the Sac-Joaquin Section D-1
Championships with Trey Williamson (DT)
and Najmah Stucks
(300 H) winning D-1 titles. The team
qualified for 6 events from the Masters
Meet to the California State Meet, the
most of any school in the Sac-Joaquin
Section. Jeremiah
Irving won the Masters 800 title.
The Delta River League qualified for 17
events total, which was the most of any
league in the section. At State Meet,
the women's 4 x 400 relay team of
Naima Goodwin,
Jasmine Cannady, Joyce Bowman, and
Najmah Stucks sprinted to a
5th-place medal.
Men's
Tennis
The
tennis team earned the SHS GPA honors
with a 3.49.
Men's
Golf
Golf
placed very well in several invitational
tournaments and sent two golfers to the
D-1 North Divisional.
Drew Muscatell
earned a spot on the All-Delta
River League Team.
Women's
Soccer
Soccer
returned to the playoffs for the 5th
time.
Baseball
Baseball won the last 4 games to have a
winning Delta River League and overall
record at 15-12.
Swimming
The
swim team sent more swimmers to the
Sac-Joaquin Section Championships than
ever.
Men's
Volleyball
Volleyball was much more competitive
this year, and the JV team did even
better to make the future look very
bright.
2006/07 Winter Sports Highlights: Women’s Basketball made it to the Elite Eight this year in Division I after winning the Section Championship last year and going to the Final Four in 2005 and 2004. That’s consistency. Wrestling finished 4th in the North Division I Championship and sent a school-record 12 wrestlers to the Masters Championship. The team finished 12th in the entire Section (all divisions) while sending a wrestler to the California State Meet for the 7th straight year. Men’s Basketball entered this year’s D-I Playoffs as the 12th seed and defeated the 5th, 3rd, 1st, and 2nd seeds to win the Section Championship. Teams: The fall sports season is over, but it was a great fall season for SHS.
The
Women's
Golf
team finished 3rd
in the Section Divisional and 4th at the
Masters, which includes all schools for golf. Soccer qualified for Section playoffs for the second straight year. Volleyball qualified for Section playoffs for the eighth straight year. Yes, it was a great fall to be a Husky! Congratulations to all fall athletes.
