January 19, 2012

Here is what’s going on in the Elk Grove Unified School District during January 30-February 4:

February 1:  Parents of students at Katherine L. Albiani Middle School are invited to attend the next session of Parent University from 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.  This month’s topic is “Make ‘Em Graph – Graphing Linear Equations and Inequalities.”

February 2:  The best singers at Franklin High School will compete at Franklin Idol at 7 p.m. in the multipurpose room.  The event is designed to showcase the vocal talent of the students from Franklin.  Much like the TV show American Idol, students will have the opportunity to sing a song of their choice in front of an audience and a panel of judges.  The audience plays a major role in selecting the next Franklin Idol, as every member of the audience gets a vote.  Admission is $3 per person.

February 2:  Parents of students at Samuel Jackman Middle School are invited to attend the next session of Riverhawk University from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the multipurpose room.  This month, the session will feature a discussion about the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program and a college fair.

February 3:  John Ehrhardt Elementary School will hold their annual Father/Daughter Dance from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the multipurpose room.  Fathers, grandfathers and uncles are invited to enjoy an evening of dancing with their daughter, granddaughter or niece to music provided by a local DJ.  Light refreshments will be served.

February 4:  The Monterey Trail High School baseball team will hold a free E-Waste Collection Fundraiser from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the stadium parking lot.  Accepted items include: monitors, televisions, desktop and notebook PCs, VCRs, stereo equipment, speakers, keyboards, mice, PDAs, digital cameras, zip drives, telephones, cell phones, printers, copiers, laser and multifunction scanners, fax machines, small household appliances (toasters, mixers and blenders) and vacuum cleaners with the dust bag removed.
