What's Happening - Calendar of Events – February 9-12

Here is what’s going on in the Elk Grove Unified School District during the week of February 9-12:

February 9:  Laguna Creek High School will host their fourth International Baccalaureate (IB) Informational Night from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. in the school theater.  The IB Diploma program, which is recognized by the world’s leading universities, is geared towards students in the last two years of high school. The program offers a broad, balanced and rigorous curriculum.

February 9:  The EGUSD Community Advisory Committee (CAC) for special education will meet from 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Robert L. Trigg Education Center in the Board Room.  This month’s topic is “Related IEP Services – OT, PT and AdPE.

February 10:  Harriet Eddy Middle School will hold an Open Enrollment Information Night from 6 p.m. to 7:15 p.m.  The event will cover information on academic requirements, extracurricular activities, the registration process and timelines at Eddy. 

February 10:  Drama students at Monterey Trail High School will participate in the 1st Annual ComedySportz Competition at 7 p.m. in the Black Box Theatre.  The presentation is not a comedy about sports, but comedy played as sport.  Two teams of “act-letes” will compete for audience laughs and points while improvising scenes, games and musicals based on audience suggestions.  A referee will call “fouls” and audience members will vote for the winners.  The cost is $5 general admission and $3 for students, senior citizens and children.

February 11: Pleasant Grove High School will hold the second of two “Take Your Parent to School” days.  There are activities planned for parents throughout the school day.  Parents can attend classes with their child or they can attend a variety of workshops, including Asset Development – Giving Youth What They Need to Succeed; student leadership, campus, clubs and athletics; Nutrition and Your Teenager; School Loop – Everything You Need to Know; and Countdown to College.  Parents will be provided with a light continental breakfast and a barbeque lunch.

February 11:  Today at 5 p.m. is the deadline for Open Enrollment applications for the following schools: Harriet Eddy, Edward Harris, Samuel Jackman, Joseph Kerr, Elizabeth Pinkerton, James Rutter and T.R. Smedberg middle schools, as well as Cosumnes Oaks, Elk Grove, Florin, Laguna Creek, Monterey Trail, Sheldon and Valley high schools.  All applications must be postmarked or delivered to the Secondary Education office at the Robert L. Trigg Education Center

February 11-13:  Universal Rhythm, Sheldon High School’s dance company, will perform their Mainstage performance in Sheldon’s Performing Arts Center.  Shows begin at 6 p.m. on February 11 and at 7 p.m. on February 12-13.  Pre-sale tickets are $6 and $8 at the door. 

February 12:  Second grade students at Stone Lake Elementary School will hold their annual Grandparent’s Day performance at 9 a.m.  The performance will feature dances and songs from around the world.
