Shot Map Exercise

Directions:  Take out a blank sheet of paper and put your name, period and date on it.  Write the title, Shot Map Exercise at the top.  Draw a large rectangle on the paper.  Read the script below and diagram a shot map for it with all four camera set-ups.  Check the grading criteria below. 

 

 

 

A long shot centers on a door to a classroom.  The bell rings, the door swings open and a group of students stream out of a classroom door, moving out of frame, camera left.  James stops to the right of the door and waits for SYLVIA to exit. 

 

JAMES (L.S) (SET-UP 1)

Hey, Sylvia.

 

Sylvia turns around and moves to James

 

SYLVIA (M.S.) (SET-UP 2)

What do you want?

 

JAMES (O/S) (SET-UP 3)

Do you have some lunch money I could borrow?

 

SYLVIA (O/S) (SET-UP 4)

Are you kidding?

 

JAMES (O/S) (SET-UP 3)

What? Are you still mad?

 

SYLVIA (M.S.) (SET-UP 2)

I can’t believe you!

 

Sylvia turns and walks away (camera left)

 

JAMES (X/S) (SET-UP 3)

GRADING CRITERIA

Map fills the entire page; symbols are not small and are easy to read. 

A rectangle marks the set area. 

Appropriate symbols mark the placement of the actors and the camera.

Each camera set up has a number and each actor with their name

The movement of actors is marked by a dotted line.

Major architectural features (doors) and/or furniture are drawn

The placement is numbered for each set up on the camera symbol.

The width of each camera view is marked with a dotted line.

The axis line is drawn in the appropriate place.
