Computer, Camera and Microphone Checklist:

Computer

  1. Make sure you have enough hard drive space on you computer to hold your video project. See the Chart.

Camera (Canon):

  1. TAPE: Make sure there is a tape in the camera. Turn it on to Record mode and look in the viewfinder.
  2. BATTERY: Make sure the battery has enough charge left to complete your project. Turn it on and look at the battery indicator.
  3. TAPE SPEED: Check the tape speed. It MUST be on SP. To check, turn on the camera to Record mode. Open the viewfinder window. Look to see if the camera is set to P (program) mode.. If not, move the switch to P. Selecet VCR Set Up, then Rec (record) Mode. Change the setting to SP if is is not already set there.
  4. WHITE BALANCE: Press the Menu button. Select Camera Set Up (press the rotating knob to select and change) and move the indicator down to White Bal. For normal use select Auto; for inside shots select Indoor; for outside select Outdoor. To set the White Balance for a specific lighting situation (very dark or light or shadows), aim the camera at a white surface (use paper or a small white board) close to an object or scene you are shooting and select Set. Once the flashing stops, select Return to back out of the menu.

Microphone (External)

Monitoring Your Sound Input : You need to monitor ALL sound you record by using headphones to check the levels and make sure you are recording sound when you tape.

  1. To hear through the headphones what you are recording follow these steps:
    1. Open the View Screen and select P (for program)
    2. Use the rotating knob to select VCR Set Up
    3. Select Audio Mode
    4. Select Phones
    5. Select Return to get out of the menu
  2. To turn off the Phones setting go back to the Menu/VCR/Audio mode and select AV.

Wind Screen

  1. Turn on and off the Wind Screen setting in the Menu/VCR/Audio settings. Having it on will lesson the effect wind has on your audio recordings.
