Question #2 – Character Actors
25 Points
In the Critical Viewing Log for this section you were asked to identify a character actor in the productions you watched.
What makes a great character actor? One of my favorites is comedian Jerry Stiller (Ben Stiller’s real-life father). He played George Castanza’s father, Frank, in Seinfeld. He plays a similar high-strung, emotionally volatile character in The King of Queens as Arthur Spooner, father of Carrie Hefferman. Jerry Stiller has a masterful use of his voice. When he brings it near emotional collapse, he is hilarious. His emotional explosions and rants are never frightening, he is a harmless blowhard.
Describe one of your favorite character actors. Why do you enjoy their performances? If you have trouble remembering a name, you can look it up by movie title at www.imdb.com. You should discuss a specific actor in answering this question; ideally it will come from a performance you listed on your Critical Viewing Log.
