Video Extra Credit
Project
Due the day before
the Final
INDEPENDENT VIDEO
PRODUCTION
Points Possible: (Varies – based on quality and creativity and amount of work involved)
Directions: For this project you are to write, shoot and edit a video of your own. You will need to find a camera to use outside of class. About a third of the students in the class in a recent survey said they have access to one. If you don’t have a camera that you can borrow, see if you can partner with someone who does, even if that person is not a member of this class.
Story Concept
The purpose of this assignment is to create something suitable for showing on an Advocacy broadcast or entered in student filmmaking contests, such as the Tower of Youth contest, which has entries due on August 1. Make sure that you don’t do anything dangerous in making this video.
Production
Shooting should be done OUTSIDE OF CLASS. Find interesting locations. You can work with students in your class, or you may decide to work with anyone you want, even if they don’t attend this school.
Editing
You can edit during class if you have everything done. You can also edit after school. Only ONE edited project is needed for grading.
Grading:
You must turn in a script and a single copy of the final edit on the server folder labeled Extra Credit. The grading on this project is different from how class projects are normally graded. The people who put in more effort or creativity will get a larger percentage of the points awarded for the final project. The teacher will give the project a total point value. These points will be divided by the director based on the contribution each person made to the project. For example, if one person was the writer, director, and editor of a project that had three actors, this person may decide that her work on the project represents 60 % of the work. One actor may get 20% while the other two will get 10%. If this project was awarded 100 points, then the director would get 60 extra credit points. If none of the actors were students in the class, their percentages would remain the same (although, of course, they would receive no course credit.)
Turn in the following
on the server:
- A script with a list of the cast and crew on the back page. The director will break down the PERCENT contribution of each member on the back page.
- One edited version at CDROM quality. If you want your work considered for an Advocacy broadcast, you need to submit a “Full Quality DV” file to the Broadcast folder.
