Instructions:   In this assignment you will edit some raw footage provided by Hollywood Bubble into a sequence that illustrates the use of a MASTER SHOT (as a LONG SHOT), a MEDIUM SHOT, CLOSE UP, EXTREME CLOSE UP, and an INSERT.  There is no set length on this, but it will be about 35 to 40 seconds long including credits.

 

You must add a sound effect for the gun shot.  Use the sound search engine www.findsounds.com 

 

Do a right click on the link of the sound you want.  “Select Download Linked File As…”  Note that the district’s web filter will block some websites. 

 

Alternately, you can use www.freesound.org This website requires registration in order to download any files.  You must provide your email and a user name to create an account.  They are run by a university in Spain, so they will not Spam you. 

 

Use appropriate music to build tension.  Use music on the FRHSVideo server in the folder titled, “Royalty Free Music.”

 

How to add a Muzzle Flash and Smoke in Apple Motion

 

Assemble an edit of the footage in iMovie

 

Export individual clip from iMovie

 

Copy each shot individually into its own iMovie project. 

 

Then export each shot.  Go to the Share pulldown menu. 

 

Select Export using QuickTime.

Click on the Options button

Select the Settings button (see screenshot below)

Make the following adjustments to the settings (see screenshot below). 

 

Compression Type: DV/DVCPRO – NTSC

Frame Rate: Current

Compressor Quality: Best

Scan Mode: Progressive

Aspect Ratio: 16:9

Then click OK

Complete the export of this file by clicking Save.

 

IMPORTING INTO MOTION

 

Import the Shot1.mov file into Motion.

 

Launch Motion

 

Click Cancel when it asks you to Select Project Preset. 

 

Select the File  pull-down menu and select Import as Project (see screen capture below)

 

 

Rotoscope as described in previous assignment

 

Select the File pull-down menu and select Export.  (See scene capture below)

Motion Instructions

 

Go to: File  >  Import as Project

Select the gunshot clip you just exported out of iMovie

Put your playback head at the start of where the shot fire

Import the Muzzle flash.png into Motion from the Motion File Browser window

Use your i and o keys to set the in and out of the clip to match 2 frames when the trigger is pulled.

Do a right click on the muzzle_flash.png and select Blend Mode  >  Screen

Move muzzle flash to correct position in the frame and turn on the red record button. 

Use arrow keys to move one frame and adjust placement of muzzle_flash.png to match gun muzzle.

To add smoke, place your playback head where you want it  to start.

Go to Library  >  Particle Emitters  >  Smoke  >  Rising Smoke

 

How to Export out project from Motion

File  > Export

Change Use:  DV NTSC Movie

Click button:  Option Button

Click button: Advanced under Video

Change Scan Mode to Progressive and Aspect Ratio to 16:9

Click button: OK

In Save As filed type: Gun Shot with Flash.mov

Click button: Export

 

 

 

Return to iMovie

 

Import file and replace original clip with new rotoscoped clip. 

 

 

Add credits which list your name as editor.  (No title is needed). 

 

Export movie as lastname_valentine

 

Turn in .m4v proper file on FRHSVideo server

 

Grading Criteria

1.       Shot sequence move from Long shot, to medium, to close up and extreme close-up.  Includes an insert of the gun on the air conditioner. 

2.      Time each shot appropriately. 

3.      Add gunshot sound effect.

4.      Add muzzle flash

5.      Sound is mixed so that dialog is clear; music and sound effects are at appropriate levels.

6.      Use appropriate music to build tension.  Music from “Royalty Free Music” folder. 

7.      Includes credit at the end listing name as editor.
