Objective: Students will learn how to follow a storyboard
to shoot long shots, medium shots, close-ups and extreme close-ups.
Procedure:
Students will go out in row groups and shoot a commercial for the Jelly
Advisory Board. The three group members will take one of three roles: Actor
#1, Actor #2, and Director-Camera Operator. In future projects, each member
of the row group will have an opportunity serve as the director. After
shooting the project, the group members will promptly return to capture the
video footage onto one computer. The file containing the footage is then
copied onto the computers of the two other members of the group. Each member
of the group will complete their own edit of the footage and turn it in
ROLES
The director has the key role in that this person is responsible for getting
the right performance out of the actors. As the camera operator, he or she
must carefully compose each shot, making sure that they respect the
rule-of-thirds; check the background for distractions; make sure the head
room is correct; insure continuity between shots, etc.
The actors are expected to give performances that appropriately match the
content. They are not to make eye contact with the camera; they should speak
clearly, but naturally; maintain continuity of movement between shots.
PROPS
Prior to the shoot date, group members must decide who will bring the
required props. These include:
-Two sandwiches in sandwich bags, or wrapped in cellophane (extra sandwiches
recommended)
-Two lunch bags
Use this graphic for the narration at the end.
