The educational film How You See It (from 1936) features an explanation of the persistence of vision. 

 

The “persistence of vision” theory was long thought of as an accurate explanation for why we are able to perceive motion while watching a quick succession of still photos. 

 

Why is this theory wrong and what is a better explanation?
