Production Company
Logo Assignment
You are to design a logo for your own video production company. Your logo will feature the name of your company, which will end in “Studios,” “Pictures,” “Media,” Films,” or “Productions.”
Procedure
Select an appropriate name for your company. You may use your own name or create a corporate name.
Launch your internet browser (Safari) and go to www.google.com. Select “Image search”, and then “Advanced image search” link. From the advanced menu, go to the size pull-down menu and select “large.” (If you have no luck finding the image you want, you can try medium.)
Find a background image and one or more foreground images. Find images that are horizontal (wide). Save these images into your Photo Booth folder. Make sure your images are appropriate for a school setting. They should not depict sensuality, violence, drugs, alcohols, or anything that could be considered gang related.
Open the background photo in Gimp. Set the image size to 640 x 480 pixels. You can set this by going to the Image pull down menu. Select Scale Image. Unlock the Aspect Ratio by clicking on the chain link icon next to the pixel size, then type in the pixel numbers. If the picture is a bit too large, you will next need to go the Image pull down menu and select Canvas Size. You can adjust the image to the correct dimensions in the Canvas Size pop-up window.
Resize, place, and erase the foreground image or images you want to use. If the image is a GIF, with an Index color space, convert it by going to the Edit pull down menu and select Mode > RGB
Use the text tool to type the name of your production company. Select an appropriate font and size.
Use the text warp tool to change the shape of the text.
In the layer pallete you will find a small button in the upper right hand corner with a triangle in a circle. Click and hold that button to access the Blending Options. In Blending Options, you can select any number of options such as drop shadow and inner glow to make your text pop out.
SAVING YOUR WORK
When you are done with the project export it as a JPG file in to the Photo Booth folder. Then go to the file pull down menu and select Save As. Change the name to your last name an underscore and the project name at the end. The select from the format pull down menu, JPEG. Your file should look similar to this: jones_logo.jpg
