Classroom Rules and Procedures
- All
school rules are enforced. A copy of these rules are available in the Franklin
High School Parent /Student Handbook. You may view this handbook as a
Microsoft Word document here.
- Remove
hats, hoods, and sunglasses when entering the classroom.
- Enter
and exit the class only through the door nearest your assigned seat. No entry or exit is allowed through the
“Blue Room” studio.
- The
area behind the teacher’s desk is out-of-bounds. Do not walk behind the teacher’s desk.
Ask for any item that you may need.
- Any
student with a fourth tardy
will receive an after-school detention.
Following the school policy, any student with five or more tardies will be referred to the appropriate Vice
Principal to be issued a Saturday
School. The student is then issued OCD for the
remainder of the period. The Vice
Principal notifies the parent.
- Log
onto your computer only after you have permission to do so.
- The
consumption of food or drink in class is prohibited in all school computer
labs. Food and drink must remain sealed in your backpack.
- Remain
in your assigned seat throughout the entire period. Class is not dismissed until everyone is
sitting in their assigned seat and all equipment is accounted for.
- You
are expected to work throughout the period. There is no free time in this
class. If you complete all of your
work then you should work on any available extra credit assignments,
experiment with the software or do work from another class.
- Students
should generally remain quiet while working. Any conversation should be
assignment-related and maintained at a low level.
- Unexcused
late work is generally docked one grade level per day. This is especially true with paper
assignments.
- Make
sure that the content of your work is not offensive or inappropriate for a
school project.
- Treat
others with care and respect.
- Treat
all computers and video equipment with care and respect.
- Your
computer may only be used for school-related work. You may not use you computer to play
games or surf to sites that are not related to your current work.
- No one
may check their e-mail (unless special permission is granted to aid a
class related purpose). No one may post messages to Internet bulletin
boards, blogs, etc.
- Students
are allowed three bathroom/personal need passes each term. A log is kept of each use. Unused passes are worth five points each
at the end of the term. Anyone
needing a fourth pass must write a 500 word essay titled, “Changes I Will
Make So That I Will Not Have to Use the Bathroom during Class.” Unless extreme illness is involved, any
bathroom break longer than 12 minutes will count
as two passes. A bathroom break
extending past 20 minutes will result in an after-school detention. Passes are not written within 15 minutes
of the bell.
- You
are required to bring your headphones everyday. A loaner set may be approved on a
case-by-case basis.
- The
director of each group is responsible for signing out equipment for their
row group. The sign-out form must
include the date, director’s first and last name, the period, and the
camera number.
- When
going outside to shoot, groups are expected to stay together and return to
class as soon as they have completed their work. It is important that all behavior
outside of the classroom is professional and non-disruptive to other
classes. Any inappropriate or
non-productive behavior while outside may result in the loss of the
ability to leave the classroom or the complete loss of camera privileges.
- If you
volunteer to help another group with their production, you must get
permission from the teacher before leaving the classroom.
- All
groups are expected to return to class ten minutes before the bell
rings.
- If you
did not have time to capture your footage to the computer, you must fill
out a form listing the director’s name, date and period. Place that form in a case with the
tape. Hand it to your teacher and
ask that it go into the proper period storage box.
- Hide
your cell phone from view. Make
sure your cell phone does not ring in class. In accordance with school policy,
anyone caught text messaging with their cell phone is required to
surrender it to the teacher. The
teacher will wrap it in paper and mark the student name and ID on it. The phone will then be given to the vice
principal’s secretary. A parent is
required to pick it up from the school office. The office opens at 7:30 a.m. and closes at 4:00 p.m.
- You
may not use CD or mp3 players in class unless you have specific permission
to do so. Hide your music players
from view. Anyone caught using a
music player without permission will have to surrender it and have a parent
collect it from the vice principal’s office.
- Unless
you have specific permission, any music CD placed into a computer will be
seized. If you want it returned,
you must have a parent pick it up from the office.
- If you
need additional time to complete your work, you should contact the teacher
and request an appointment to work either before or after-school.
- After
the class is dismissed, push in your chair and leave your workstation neat
and clean.
- Students
are encouraged, but not required to burn copies of their work to a CD-ROM
at the end of the term. Blank CD-R
disks are not provided by the school.
Compressed files can be uploaded to School Loop and downloaded at
home.
- While
it is generally discouraged, with a few exceptions, if you decide to post
any of your student work to the Internet, you must obtain permission from
all of the people who appear in the video.
You may not post any video that is not yours.
- The
consequences for violating these rules and procedures can include
detention or after-school detention, parent meetings, and vice principal
referrals. Parents will be notified
of counterproductive behavior. The privilege of working with cameras or
computers may be suspended for serious or continual violations.
- The
Mac desktop must remain set at the default blue design.
