Facts   Writer stays focused on topic 
Writing may stray somewhat from topic.
 
Writing clearly strays from topic.
 
Writing lacks focus throughout. The writing typically rambles.
 
 
Support for Subject Matter   Subject matter supported with relevant and sufficient examples, illustrations and other appropriate information or evidence.
 
Writing shows some generally relevant support but may not adequately relate the supporting material to the topic although there is an attempt.
 
Writing provides little or irrelevant support for topic.

Mechanics Language   Writing shows appropriate word choice and control over sentence structure including sentence variety. Sentences are cast predominantly in the active voice. Writing has few errors in punctuation, spelling and grammar.

Writing shows limited or incorrect word choice and little control over language. Little awareness of sentence structure and many errors in spelling, punctuation, grammar and usage.
